Description: The Tenerife Fine Arts Center (Circulo de Bellas Artes de Tenerife) is a non-profit entity funded in 1925, which recently refreshed its long lasting history with a strong public engagement program. Fernando Menis was entrusted to improve the usability of the building and renew the Arts Center. The project redesigns the entrance and the circulations across the 5 floors in order to make all parts of the building easily accessible. The highlight of the intervention is the custom made welcome desk, which looks more like of a site specific installation than a furniture object. Moreover, the interactive lighting varies in relation with the human presence as well as with the season of the year. Besides energy savings, this system aims to produce a sensitive relation between the users and their environment, enrich the way building and contents are experienced. The low cost materials meet the demands of an extremely limited budget while referring the history of the building: everything is solved with small concrete blocks, cement and painting. Another particularity of the intervention is the collaboration with artists. A 30 x 3 m collective mural made by 47 local and international artists, who got inspiration from aerial images of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in order to paint a contemporary interpretation of the city, dominates the theatre of the venue. This is the biggest mural ever in Col-Art’s history, which counted on the collaboration of two of the founders of this art movement: Rossana Durán from Mexico and Marc Kuhn from Switzerland. Another street artist Shirley Wintsch worked on the intervention of the facade – a geometric abstract painting that plays with luminescence effects.
The renovation of the Tenerife Fine Arts Center enhanced the visual and cultural features of the building and created a suitable atmosphere for the art to spread.

Descripción: El Circulo de Bellas Artes de Tenerife es una organización sin fines de lucro establecido en 1925 que hace poco refrescó su historia con un programa que totalmente involucró al público. Fernando Menis fue encargado de mejorar la utilidad del edificio y renovar el Centro de Artes. El Proyecto rediseña la entrada y la circulación a través de las 5 plantas para que todas las partes del edifico sean fácilmente accesibles. Lo más destacado de la reforma es el mostrador de bienvenida que parece más a una instalación específica del sitio que a un mueble. Además, la luz interactiva cambia en relación con la presencia humana al igual que con la estación del año. Además del ahorro de enería, este sistema pretende producir una relación sensitiva entre los usuarios y su medio ambiente, y enriquecer la manera como se experimenta el edificio y los contenidos. Los materiales de bajo coste satisfacen la demanda del presopuesto extremadamente restringido mientras se refiere a la historia del edificio: se resuelve con pequeños bloques de hormigón y pintura. Otra particularidad de la intervención es la colaboración con artistas. Un muro colectivo de 30 x 3m hecho por 47 artistas locales e internacionales, quienes sacan la inspiración de imágenes aéreas de Santa Cruz de Tenerife para pintar una interpretación contemporánea de la ciudad, domina el escenario. Éste es el muro más grande de la historia de Col Art que contaba con la colaboración de dos de los fundadores de este movimiento artístico: Rossana Durán de México y Marc Kuhn de Suiza. En la fachada otra intervención se puede ver hecha por el artista callejero Shirley Wintsch, una pintura abstracta geométrica que juega con efectos luminiscentes. La renovación del Circulo de Bellas Artes de Tenerife ha mejorado las características visuales y culturales del edificio y ha creado un atmósfera adecuado para el arte que se difunda.
