La Iglesia del Santísimo Redentor de Las Chumberas recibe el Honor Award, la mayor distinción que otorga el jurado del Premio Internacional de Arte y Arquitectura Religiosa Faith & Form/ Interfaith Design AIA.
De este modo, el American Institute of Architects AIA, a través de su comisión Interfaith Design , junto a la asociación Partners for Sacred Places y la editorial Faith & Form, reconocen las calidades espaciales y la contribución a la comunidad local de este edificio, realizada por en las afueras de La Laguna.
Uno de los premios de arquitectura más longevos, el Premio Internacional de Arte y Arquitectura Religiosa Faith & Form/ Interfaith Design AIA, se convoca anualmente desde 1978 con el objetivo de honrar lo mejor del mundo en la arquitectura sacra y el arte litúrgico de todas las religiones. Los premios se otorgan en cinco categorías: Arquitectura religiosa, Diseño interior/ litúrgico, Paisaje sacro, Arte sacro y Proyecto no construido.
La Iglesia del Santísimo Redentor de Las Chumberas ha conseguido el máximo galardón en la categoría de «Arquitectura religiosa: Nuevo edificio» en una edición disputada por 92 proyectos de todo el mundo de los cuales un total de 16 obras han sido seleccionadas, provenientes de Estados Unidos, Japón, China, Thailandia, Rwanda, siendo la de Fernando Menis la única de España y Europa.
Sobre la Iglesia de Las Chumberas, el jurado apunta : «Es un trabajo asombroso. Parece como si los bloques de piedra hubieran sido cincelados y ahuecados para crear espacios espirituales mediante el uso de la luz y de la textura. Se consiguen intimidad y calidez. Las texturas interiores además mejoran la acústica. Los componentes estructurales son expresivos. Se presta especial atención a la acústica y la iluminación natural». La ceremonia de entrega de premios tendrá lugar el 23 de junio, en Chicago, en el marco de la Convención Nacional del American Institute of Architects.
The Holy Redeemer Church received a Honor Award from the Faith & Form International Award for Religious Art and Architecture, an annual award organized by the American Institute of Architects through its Interfaith Design knowledge community in conjunction with the organization Partners for Sacred Places and the editorial Faith & Form.
The Holy Redeemer Church has received an Honor Award within the `Religious Architecture: New Facilities ́ category in an editon disputed by 92 projects from around the world, of which a total of 16 works have been selected, from United States, Japan, China, Thailand, Rwanda and Spain. The awards ceremony will take place on June 23, in Chicago, within AIA’s annual convention.
About the Holy Redeemer Church, the jury comments: «This is an amazing work. It appears as if blocks of stone have been chiseled and hollowed out to create spiritual spaces in their use of light and texture. It creates intimacy and warmth. The interior surfaces also enhances the acoustics. Structural components are expressive. There is particular attention on acoustics and daylighting».
